Roadworthy Certificates (RWC)

Roadworthy Certificates (RWC)

A Certificate of Roadworthiness (also known as a ‘roadworthy’ or ‘RWC’) shows that your vehicle’s safe enough to be used on public roads. A roadworthy is required whenever a vehicle’s sold, if it’s being re-registered, and to clear some defect notices.

The person selling the vehicle must produce a current roadworthiness certificate to the purchaser, unless the buyer is a spouse or a motor vehicle trader.

The roadworthy inspection is a check of the vehicle to make sure that key components are in a good enough condition for safe road use. It includes:

  • wheels and tyres

  • steering, suspensions and braking systems

  • seats and seatbelts

  • lights and reflectors

  • windscreen, and windows including front wipers and washers

  • vehicle structure

  • other safety related items on the body, chassis or engine.

Your vehicle's RWC is valid for 30 days from the date it is issued.

Pre Purchase Inspections

What is the difference between RWC inspection versus Pre Purchase Inspections. Unfortunately RWC is limited to only what is required by vicroads, with a Pre Purchase inspection, we will cover all points within RWC as well as the following.

  • Professional opinion of mechanical condition of the vehicle based on sellers claims

  • verify performance or upgrades if any.

  • ecu diagnostic.

  • information on know issues with the respective vehicle

  • unmentioned repair cover ups as well as validity of odometer reading if it has been tempered with.
